Loving…Tea, trains and catching words

Loving… The Lull of a Train

The train gently rocks from side to side. Lulling me into a sleepy submission. I ignore the muffled conversations around me, the book closes softly and I let my thoughts wander. It’s a novelty these days and I embrace it.

Loving… Tea for Two

Cucumber sandwiches with the crusts cut off. Scones with jam and cream. Tea sipped over chuckles with my nana. I don’t take this time for granted. I know at different points in her life there could have been completely different outcomes. We high five each other happily for being alive still- she’s that kind of nana.

Loving… Catching Words

Plucking words from the air, rearranging them, and then trying desperately to make some sort of sense of them. They can be uniform in shape, nonsensical in their line up, or simply lost. But occasionally? Occasionally they fall just as they were meant to be. Captured within that micro second and dragged to forever with pen and paper.

Loving… The quiet time of summer

sunrise || cityhippyfarmgirl

There’s a warmth to the air at 5.25am. If I close my eyes it almost feels like a soft sheet brushing over my skin. I don’t though, for I’m riding. Riding to catch a sunrise. Riding in the quiet of the pre-dawn. The city around me is quiet, nobody needs my attention at this time. Too early to start the day, I have left my loved ones at home, while I ride to welcome in the sun.

**********

It’s 12pm and it’s quiet. The chaos creators have paused in their carnage and instead direct it to their lunch plates. After a busy morning doing busyness. They have stopped for a minute or two and hungrily wolf down their food, it’s good to see after so long of sickness and not wanting to eat.

Quiet except for the odd slurp, munch and muffled noises of food appreciation. It won’t last long, their recharge time is blink and you’ll miss it.

***********

It’s 2pm and it’s quiet. Small girls still need naps to enable them to conquer the afternoon of possible dragons, rumbles, leaping, soccer and tea parties. Air outside so hot, it drapes itself over your shoulders, if you dare to step out that is. Lulling you and everyone in its path into a sleepy slumber. Summer holiday time, and those hot weekend siestas are a welcome respite.

It’s 9pm, and it’s quiet. A candle flickers. A summer time bug gets lured a little closer. The small ones sleep, the sleep of the contented. Nightmares have been banished for tonight as there is a small posse of dinosaurs and lego figures standing guard. The night-time sleep of summer holiday children.

Our adult voices are lowered and our thoughts quieted. Sandy shoes at the door, tell a story of late evening beach wanderings. Another hot day, but this one ending with deep chuckles and muffled belly laughs. Loving that.

While this week certainly hasn’t been all sunshiney soft light, rainbows, and unicorns. I am really thankful for those small moments captured in these pictures. I’m also loving the fact that we have a functioning healthcare system in this country, (that while it isn’t without it’s problems, is pretty damn good as well.) And I’m loving that.

Loving

Loving

Loving

…seeing people line up in long queues, not fiddling with their phones, but intently reading while waiting instead.

Loving

…the written word on pages. As much as I love being digitally connected. There is something incredibly reaffirming to see so many people reading books. At the writers festival, if they weren’t reading, they were starting conversations that had come from books. And I’m absolutely loving that.

I wasn’t sure whether to continue my loving posts this year. However, a chaotic week came and went and all I had wanted to think about was the simple things I had been loving lately. A grounding, a connection and a reminder that not all parts of our life at the moment is a whirl wind of clocks, places to be and at times seeming chaos. There are simple moments entwined within the chaotic ones and they are the ones I want to most remember.

 Coconut Mango Ice Cream

In a blender, add two big bananas, one can of coconut milk, 1/3 cup of sugar and whizz it up. Pour it out into a dish and blend some fresh mango. Swirl that in too. Freeze it and either run a fork through every half an hour or so until you are ready to eat it or bring it out about 20 minutes before you want to eat it, running a fork through it, (the banana content should stop it freezing completely solid.)

loving photography, every pixel

sunrise

I”m having a quiet love affair with photography at the moment. Every little pixel of it. I’m loving the fact that I’ve been lucky enough to live in a time of digital photography. To be able to take 400 photos of the same thing and then to just quietly delete most of them later on in the day is a wonderful thing. Compare that with getting 400 photos developed at the local chemist and paying a small bag of gold in order to do so- lucky indeed.

To take a picture, try and tell a story within four small corners is a challenge and one that I really am loving.

loving… talented and passionate people

I think…rather a lot. Sometimes probably a little too much, (and some times not often enough) but this week I’ve been thinking about some amazingly talented people, and truly loving the passion that they spread on to others near by.

vantastic

Loving beautiful books that come in the mail. If Kate’s words and wonderful pictures don’t make you want to go retro caravaning around the place, I don’t know what will. The sweetest, loveliest book.

Loving this music video clip. It makes me smile, it transfixes my little people and makes me happy to say I know this talented man. Live vocal looping is not something that many people have heard of, in a nutshell it’s layer upon layer of music coming from his voice, (not one instrument and all performed live.) Larry T Hill is also pretty amazing for having hitch hiked 28,000km last year around the country, has an upcoming sailing trip to Sri Lanka, and an enthusiasm or passion for life that is pretty much unrivaled. This is the man who helped bumped me into the blogosphere, (and he’s also my cousin-yay!)

Loving Milkwood’s new video. Not a lot else to say except…it’s awesome, and they are awesome, and you’d be mad not to do a course through them if it’s at all possible.

Three snapshots of three very different people showing a little part of how very talented and passionate they all are, doing what they do best.

Loving that.
