Loving Spring

Loving…

Noticing the tomato plants, poke their head up again, after a brief winters sleep.

Stopping to actually chew food rather than gulp. Who knew that could be so enjoyable.

And adventures.

New adventures. While this space will keep quietly ticking on over, I’ll also be over on insta, hopefully giving a sneaky peak into a few other things that are also happening.

Loving…

The soft scent of spring in the air, the air not as cold. Growing surprise jasmine that along with wild freesias, completely infiltrates the house with its soft fragrance.

New blossoms growing from sleepy branches.

And bees, so many bees. Get the morning light right, stand still and watch the whole garden come alive with tiny buzz of busy insects.

The Song of Spring

She’s been whispering for weeks now,

just a hint of a melody at first,

and a soft warm breath noticed at the base of the neck.

The light longer and brighter,

changing with the fastening beat of the season,

tickety tick, tickety tick…

no longer the slow deep boom of winter,

it’s a light footed dance from grass blade to flower,

notes skipping from one side to another.

This is spring and she’s drawing us out,

with promises of picnics, new garden beds and ideas,

a warbling magpie joins in with an accompanying beat,

she too knows this annual tune,

this is the Song of Spring.

strawberry season, it’s fast and furious round here and that’s just the consumption of them. Another strawberry crumble was inhaled. (The key to it is the lemon zest, I’m sure of it.)

light, and so much more of it. It’s there early in the morning and it’s there in the early evening.

While this week certainly hasn’t been all sunshiney soft light, rainbows, and unicorns. I am really thankful for those small moments captured in these pictures. I’m also loving the fact that we have a functioning healthcare system in this country, (that while it isn’t without it’s problems, is pretty damn good as well.) And I’m loving that.

What have you been loving lately?

anticipation and spring

I flicked the calendar page over. September…spring.

A turn of a new page and suddenly there was new beginnings, a sense of anticipation.  There are a few things happening in September for me and I like it, I’ve loved the build up. The quiet non chalence of the months before, knowing that time never stands still and things will always roll on was kind of lovely to think of. A feeling that helped ground me a little when things felt all too much. Now Spring is here, her sunny days and all of her, well… sunny expectancy.

Yes, maybe that’s how I’m seeing September.

All of September.

With a little anticipation and a little sunny expectancy.

spring in my step

It looks like we are springing in to spring round these parts. The light is different, days longer, clothing layers are slowly being peeled off and jasmine…

Beautiful jasmine is flowering on local suburban fences, where I’ll quite often smell it before I see it. A gorgeous soft delicate smell that I’m sure to my end of days will always remind me of my mother. It’s such a favourite flower with her. A tiny sprig is just enough to scent the air, enough to turn heads that say “Ooooh, what’s that lovely smell?

Blue sunny skies and cold seas are enticing little feet in. Sand is being strewn, holes are being dug and shivery skinny bodies are being dried off. Part of me wants to listen to the sea’s siren song and go swimming. The other part of me says, oh hell no, it’s still way too cold in there. Maybe in a few months…

I’m still crocheting too. I keep getting side tracked with different projects though, which is making it tricky to finish anything. A little bit here and a little bit there. Stolen moments that slowly add stitches while creations grow. I’m not sure what is more appealing at the moment, the prospect of making something and fueling that creative drive or the calming meditative effect repetitive stitches has on me. Either way, it’s working.

Goodbye to winter which I always adore. Winter and all she has to offer. The warming foods, seasonal vegetables, looped scarves, and a cooler time to stop, think and plan. With spring now here though, there is a new vibrancy. A new sense of growth and energy, both internally and around me… an energy that I’m sure will put just a little spring in my step.

What’s happening with you and your change of seasons?
