I”m having a quiet love affair with photography at the moment. Every little pixel of it. I’m loving the fact that I’ve been lucky enough to live in a time of digital photography. To be able to take 400 photos of the same thing and then to just quietly delete most of them later on in the day is a wonderful thing. Compare that with getting 400 photos developed at the local chemist and paying a small bag of gold in order to do so- lucky indeed.
To take a picture, try and tell a story within four small corners is a challenge and one that I really am loving.

* There have been some odd sunrise colours lately due to terrible bush fires in the surrounding areas.

Brydie, this always blows me away as well. When I discovered digital photography, and more importantly, iPhone photography, it was like I’d won the lottery. I was an avid photographer in my teens when it cost serious money to get photos developed, half of which didn’t work, and we used to shoot in half frame to save $$. Now it’s just point and shoot, all virtually for free. Just wondrous. We live in the future! 🙂

It was always with a little nervousness opening that developed packet of photos for the first time wasn’t it…will they, won’t they be any good?
I wonder what things will be like in another 20 years?!

It is a wonderful thing indeed!! And digital photography also reduces so much unnecessary waste of (failed) developed photos! Which of course is right up your alley ;-). I love your posts and photos! Keep going!!!

I think digital photography has made it so much easier for every novice to be a ‘photographer’. Shooting on film was so much more difficult and you certainly needed a lot of knowledge to create a stunning image xx

I totally agree that digital photography is awesome although I’m not good with change (any change) and I had the film SLR (bought my first camera when I was 17 years old and it cost me $375 which included the twin lenses. I was only earning about $80 a week full time (way back then) so it was a lot of money. It was a Canon AE1 and I love that camera and knew that camera inside out. I went on a holiday to NZ for a month and I took 6 rolls of 36 and then had to pay to get them developed. These days like you I can take 250 photos at the kids sports day or on any given weekend. Once I got a DSLR things changed as the first little digital point and shoot the quality just wasn’t there. I soooooo love the digital photos and emailing them to people as soon as you load them onto your computer is also great. Regards Kathy A, Brisbane, Australia

digital photography certainly is great but i also love the black and white photos i took when i was in my twenties and travelling around europe..i was the only one among my friends who had a camera and took photos but i’m so glad that i did..x

Your photos are blowing me away! This one is incredible and I’ve been meaning to come back and comment on your sunrise ones – just wonderful. So glad to be living in the digital era. The biggest change I’ve made this year is deleting the ‘bad’ photos from the camera there and then or straight after I’ve downloaded them onto the computer. I used to have many many duplicates of the same photo and wasted time trying to work out which ones to keep and which ones to trash – you only need 1 or 2 of the same shot and I’ve been quite ruthless lately and it’s been quite liberating! x

Oh it is liberating isn’t it! Delete, delete, delete. The good thing about having a shonky memory is that I will never feel guilty about deleting any as I won’t remember having taking them in the first place. I would love to take some photos in your beautiful corner of the world, I had no idea what I was doing last time I was there and feel like there were too many missed photo opportunities. Next time! 🙂

I’m glad you’re liking photography and you’re right, digital does make it much easier to see our mistakes which can be deleted before taking the next, really good pic of the same subject! Keep shootin’….

I remember my Dad spending hours and hours in his dark room developing one or two photos. We are lucky.
I’m loving foraging. I get a thrill when I spot something edible. Free food!

ps. Your comment about someone killing a bee is heartbreaking. How naive. And I can relate to cockroaches – they were horrific in Newcastle. Thankfully they haven’t discovered us here yet. but to be honest I’d probably swap cockroaches for snakes any-day 😉
