a gathering

Last weekend we had a gathering

an afternoon to come together with shared food, simple decorations, no structured time, one table, lots of rugs and plenty of conversation

“All ukeleles, hulahoops, guitars, fire twirling, bongos, bubbles and barefeet are actively encouraged…”

an open green space giving shade and freedom to

20 adults and 28 children

When city living can feel so incredibly rushed, hurried, structured and small. Gatherings like this are like a breath of fresh air.

Recharging the batteries, giving adults time to stop, slow down and talk. Children time to do what they do best…run off and explore, creating their own games.

I absolutely adore afternoons like this…

Thank you friends.

  1. What a perfect way to spend a Sunday. I love the pretty wool wrapped around the trees and that dessert looks stunning. Will you be sharing the recipe? And I do hope everyone arrived with that list of things that were actively encouraged xx

  2. That looks like such a wonderful, restful day with friends.
I love the whole picnic and rugs and ukelele pics- was there any fire twirling going on?
Thanks for sharing, Brydie, I could almost feel the warm breezes!

  3. What a wonderful, wonderful gathering – it all looks just lovely. I am, though, a little intrigued by the reference to fire twirling 😉

    • Gin plus tonic, thanks for reading. I’ve also done similar gatherings in the past where everyone I have invited has to invite along someone else. The more the merrier. They have all been a lot of fun. Make it happen 🙂

  4. Sometimes I think you bring the ‘country ‘ to the city , Brydie. I used to think of the city as being a place where one could feel isolated and alone…but you have shown me it is a place of community and connection.Thankyou.

    • Kim, thank YOU for your lovely comment. I think the city can certainly make you feel isolated and alone, and at times I’ve definitely felt that. But…it can also be a wonderful melting pot of people and ideas, and if I’ve got an idea for something to happen it really is up to me to make it so. It’s taken me a long time to realise I should just try and create the community life I so longed for in country living. It doesn’t happen all the time, but damn, it’s awesome when it does 🙂
