loving…simplicity and farm life

“Often life’s pleasures pass us by simply because we don’t take a moment to focus on them… Make a point of noticing everyday something that uplifts your spirit or tickles your heart… Stop to breathe in the joy of this moment and then tell someone about it. Share your joy and revel in it. When your joy is savoured, and then shared, it is magnified…” ROBIN GRILLE

For me, there seem to be a lot of things to think about at the moment, and never quite enough time to do all of that thinking. What I have noticed lately though, is that life seems deliciously wonderful when those tiny moments of joy are grabbed hold of and held for just moment longer. Pausing a weary brain, and clearing a head full of thoughts.

A clear head… there is a lot to love of that.

Waking in the middle of the night, being showered in moonlight from a very full moon….loving every moonbeam of that.

Weekend away to a beautiful farm, where we were able to pick whatever we wanted to eat. With persimmons, pecans, eggs, spinach, sweet potato, tomatoes, mandarins, and home made blackberry jam from blackberries just down the hill to choose from…we all loved every second of it.

Dappled autumnal afternoon light hitting my kitchen table… loving that.

Dimpled baby smiles and cheeky chuckling boys…loving them.

Drinking coffee from my grandmothers 1960’s coffee mug. There is something about it that grounds me every time. The connection to her, the history behind it, the brief quiet time that is usually associated with it and importantly the lip. Nothing worse than a coffee cup with an annoying lip…loving drinking from that cup.

Moments of simplicity. Often far too brief lately, but jeez….loving them when they are there.

If anyone else would like to do a ‘loving’ post, please let me know, link back to this post and I’ll do a link up. I try to do one the last Sunday of the month (or you can simply write something in the comments). I would love to know about those little moments in your week that have tickled your heart.

Have a look at what is tickling Kari’s taste buds at the moment.

  1. A warm, sweetly pine scented breeze, carressing, ruffling the hens feathers, as they go about the serious business of scratching for the worms, insects, and tidbits hidden in the grass. They are a feathered quilt of color, a constant comments of clucks, churrs and cackles, topped by the crow of the rooster!
Fine mists of rain, blown in from the mountain side, briefly, dampening the air, only to stop and start again! Sunshine dappling the ground, through the clouds and trees, the birds are singing, spring is here at last!
Greening is the leaves and grass. Gone is the snow and here is the tiny glacier lily, blooming briefly, next to the beargrass. In Montana, on a high mountain meadow farm, the new season begins, a promise of growth, of bueaty, of wild storms and gentle days, a fast season, to summer, and seasons beyond!
The simple pleasures of moments, breathing deeply of the clean air, reveling in the surrounding bueaty, enjoying the stock and the wildness, re-energizing body and soul, and back to chores, neverending, on the farm… Little Feather Farm, Montana, USA

  2. What lovely words Brydie!! Coincidentally we were looking at going to a fruit picking farm right in that area. Nicolas has been wanting to take us fruit picking for ages now and keeps going on and on about it ;-). We thought of going today but decided against it cause it’s the last day of school holidays and we were too worried of bad traffic ;-(. But we sure should go soon and seeing your beautiful pictures only want me to go even more!! Thanks for sharing these and your thoughts, how well you are able to put those down on paper impresses me each time! xx irene

    • Irene, make a weekend of it and stay at the farm (Remony Farm) Was Nicolas looking at picking apples in Bilpin? If so, it’s the next village up, so not far at all. Only takes an hour and a quarter from the eastside, and the girls would have a ball. Do it! 🙂

    • Rachael, crappy weeks need extra lovely pictures popped into them. I’m happy that my pics aided your spirits some how. Those kind of weeks also need, nurturing cups of chai, dark chocolate and tiny bunches of lavender squeezed into your day… I hope you can find some. xxxx

  3. What a beautiful farm house. And hasn’t the weather been wonderful for a weekend escape! I love the sound of the blackberry jam made from blackberries picked from the property – what a wonderful way to live xx
