Super Easy Chocolate Chip Biscuits

Now who doesn’t like Chocolate Chip Biscuits? They are easy thing to make that seem to appeal to a lot of taste buds. I always seem to be making some sort of basic biscuit, but occasionally I like to splash out and make something a bit sweeter. Keeps Mr Chocolate happy, The Monkeys quiet and gives a mama something to dunk into an afternoon pick-me-up coffee. Also a good thing to take around to a friends house… or a neighbour, or that family down the street that are now cleaning up flood water.

Go on, what are you waiting for…

Chocolate Chip Biscuits

125gms softened butter

1/3 cup muscavado sugar (or other dark unrefined sugar)

1 beaten egg

1 tps vanilla

2/3 cup plain flour

2/3 cup s/r flour

2/3 cup choc chips

Mix ingredients in that order. Roll into balls, squish them down. Bake at 180C until golden.

Now how easy is that?

  1. I love hearing people call cookies biscuits!…I hear chocolate chip biscuits and automatically think about chocolate and light fluffy bread! I like alternatives to the traditional toll house recipe as well.

        2 sticks butter (1c)
        3/4 cup sugar
        3/4 cup brown sugar
        2 eggs
        1 tsp vanilla
        1tsp baking soda
        2 and 1/4 cups flour
2 cups chocolate chips (1 bag)

cream butter and sugars add each additional ingredient stirring after each, drop by the tsp onto baking sheet bake at 350 for about 8 min.
toll house is our “leading brand” of chocolate chips here in the states.
During the depression, my grandmother made them with half of the butter and half of the chips and reduced sugars as well…can be done, but not quite as good.

  2. Tollhouse Cookies” are the go to recipe for Americans since 1939, when these cookies that were served at the Tollhouse Inn run by the Wakefield’s in New England- Massachusetts, to be exact.

    The original recipe is as follows;
2/3 cup soft shortening (part butter)
    1/2 cup brown sugar
    1/2 cup granulated sugar
    1 egg
    1 tsp of vanilla
Mix the above thoroughly together and set aside.
Sift together the following ingredients and mix with wet mixture above.
    1 1/2 cups AP flour
    1/2 tsp soda
    1/2 tsp salt
You should have a nice moist dough.
    Add:
    1/2 cup chopped nuts
    6 oz package semi-sweet chocolate pieces ( about 1 1/4 cup)
Drop rounded teaspoonfuls about 2″ apart on unmgreased baking sheet. Bake until delicately browned…cookies should still be soft. Cool slightley before removing from baking sheet.
    Baking temp:375 degrees F
    time: bake 8-10 min.
    amount: 4-5dozen 2″ cookies.

The recipe is not much different- these are famous because they became all the rage and the chocolate chip form was manufactured FOR this recipe!
